The Balmain Bug was raced on Sydney harbour from the late 1800's to mid 1900's as a pure racing craft.
Bugs had overall hull length as the only rule, so this 6 inch bug is a 6 inch hull with massive bowsprit, boom , mast and keel!
To support such a big rig the bugs had a very wide and high displacement hull to stop from sinking with a big keel.
It is typical for the little bug to have a lot of its deck under water when sailing along.
This kit is a vacumn formed hull with timber deck, rudder, mast spars and keel fin with solid brass fittings and lead ballast.
Note that many traditional Bugs had sliding fore and aft keels, this kit has room in the hull to fit these, but not included.
