Product Description

A Practical Handbook for Model Yachtsmen, Editted by Percvial Marshall with a new introduction by Russell Potts.

Reprinted version of this 1905 classic. Contains much material useful for those restoring early craft or just interested in our ‘roots’. The original material was provided by H W Theobald for Model Engineer and was collected by Percival Marshall as editor into a single volume. It is quite different from the version written by Bill Daniels which appeared in 1913 and stayed in print until 1950. It provides a picture of late 19th century model yachting, just before the introduction of Daniels’ design procedures and before the invention of the Braine gear. Russell Potts has provided an Introduction which nicely locates the work in its historical context.

Sections cover the various types of yacht and rig, rating rules of the time, construction by carving and planking, sail making, spars and fittings, steering gears (pre-Braine and weighed rudder) and sailing. 144 pages.
